Construction of the walls of the new Chabad House for Iluy Nishmas Chaya Mushka Etiya, ob'm, daughter of the shliach, Rabbi Victor Etiya, Chabad House director of Chevron is underway. Rafi Halevi of N.Y. a friend of the Chabad House of Chevron, who was present at the groundbreaking brought with him some stones of the Kotel and of Meoras Hamachpela and poured them into the concrete used for building the new Chabad House in Chevron.

Members of the Chabad community of Kfar Yonah, headed by Rabbi Nehemiah Schmerling took a trip on Erev Rosh Chodesh Elul to pray at the graves at Chevron. After davening in Meoras Hamachpela, the visitors proceeded to the grave-site of Rebbetzin Menucha Rochel, ob'm - considered the 'Mother of the Chevron Settlement'. The farbrengen held there continued into the night and was joined by Rabbi Yossi Nachshon, activities director of the Chabad House of Kiryat Arba-Chevron. Rabbi Schmerling delivered a class on Chassidus, which was followed by Chassidic nigguns. It is noteworthy that the farbrengen attracted nearby soldiers on patrol at the grave-site of Rebbetzin Menucha Rochel

On Tuesday morning a mezuzah posting ceremony was held at the inspection workstations in Meoras Hamachpela in the presence of commanders and officers of the cave. Due to the growing number of visitors in the past few years the Chabad House continues to carry out mivtzaim in full cooperation with the army authorities at Meoras Hamachpela.

Tens of pairs of tefillin were distributed this week to IDF soldiers and security personnel serving in the Chevron region. The tefillin were given to the soldiers at a moving ceremony at one of the IDF bases that was joined by shluchim of the area: Rabbi Victor Etiya, Rabbi Danny Cohen and Rabbi Yossi Nachshon. Also present were representatives of the donors from France: Rabbi Shlomo Azulai, Chabad House director of Levallois, brother in law of Rabbi Eliyahu Zikri of the Chabad House of Lyon, headed by Rabbi Shmuel Gurevitch. The mezuzahs were contributed in tribute of a friend of Chabad who wished to remain anonymous, who is active in Mivtza Mezuzah in Israel. Aside of the tefillin and mezuzahs, special kits containing books of Chitas and mezuzahs were handed out to be placed in army jeeps and vehicles.

An unexpected reconstruction is being conducted in the Chabad section of the Chevron graveyard. The municipality has ordered this reconstruction due to damage to the Rebbetzin Menucha Rochel's Tziyon caused by a blockage of a neighboring pipe that flooded the Tziyon. Following negotiations with the Arab residents the agreement arrived at was that the municipality would repair the sewage system. The reconstruction will take several days.

As a reward from their excellent achievements students a group of the Chabad yeshiva of Beitar Ilit were taken on a trip to Chevron and its surroundings. The students were guided by Rabbi Yossi Nachshon of the Chabad House of Kiryat Arba- Chevron and enjoyed a 'Day on Shlichus' alongside a hike and visit to the Chabad House of Tene Omarim.

The corner stone laying of the new Chabad House in Kiryat Arba- Chevron constructed in honor of Chaya Mushka Etia, a'h, who tragically perished in a fire, was held on Lag Baomer. The new 3-story building will contain a shul, a guest home, a Tzivos Hashem club, offices, a library, classroom, lecture halls and more. "We are positive that the 'fire of shlichus' burning in the heart of the little Chaya Mushka will continue to inspire us in this building", said the shliach Danny Cohen at the occasion.

In the course of a discussion on magic tricks last night on channel One of the Israeli T.V. a clip focusing on the 'Chabad Magician' of Kiryat Arba- Chevron, Rabbi Victor Etiya, was broadcasted on the program. "There are magicians that claim that they do not possess spiritual powers and their performances entail quick movements that incur illusions of magical acts, one of these, who voluntarily entertains soldiers in Chevron, is Rabbi Victor Etiya, who performed a row of stunts to a crowd gathered in a square of Yerushalayim". After this introduction made by journalist, Rabbi Uri Revach, who produced the report, Rabbi Etiya expressed his dismay about the people who believe the declarations of some of these 'magicians' indicating that they are endowed with supernatural powers.

A group of friends of the Chabad House of the Five Towns, N.Y., directed by Rabbi Zalman Volvovik and Rabbi Ami Paikowsky and his friend from CH, Rabbi Moshe Rubashkin, took a trip to Chevron. The group visited the Tziyon of Rebbetzin Menucha Rochel, a'h, and the Meoras Hamachpela and encouraged IDF soldiers. At the close of their tour, the visitors were privileged to take part in a Sefer Torah dedication ceremony at the Grave of our Fathers, in memory of Adir Zik, za'l.

Chabad journalist, Uri Revach reported that mezuzahs on the doorposts of the broadcasting authority in Yerushalayim were changed today in the presence of prominent members of the broadcasting authority including director of the sports division Sasi Efrati, director of the economy division Yigal Cohen, director of the production service Micki Klein and news reporter in Arabic - Michael Dana. "I have no doubt, now that the mezuzahs have been replaced with kosher ones, that the contents our channel presents will be more positive", said Revach, who was accompanied by Rabbi Yossi Nachshon of Chevron on this mission.

A group from Montreal in Israel, accompanied by the shluchim Rabbi Moshe New and Rabbi Zalman Kaplan just visited Chevron. They were taken on a tour of the city and the army bases in its area, where they handed out sweets and chatted with the soldiers. Following the tour the group spent some time davening at the Meoras Hamachpela and at the Ohel of Rebbetzin Menucha Rochel and then were served a meal at the 'Hachnosas Orchim' center in the city, hosted by the shliach, Rabbi Danny Cohen.
